Why is Father's Day special to me? For many years, I never knew the joys of being on the receiving side of Father's Day and now that I am about to approach my second Father's Day with the arrival of Rachel into our lives in December, 2007, I can tell you that is Father's Day is very special. Rachel has become such a special part of both Sandy's and my life. For example, today Rachel is doing a project in school and she read a book about Althea Gibson, the first female, black tennis champion. One of the questions Rachel had to answer was, what inspired Althea to achieve that goal? In her book, Althea states her inspiration and is quoted as saying " I always wanted to be somebody". When reflecting on Father's Day I think of Rachel and think about Althea's inspiration and feel that the somebody I have become to be is also something that I always wanted to be, a father.
